INTRO TO ME!:
I have been a competitive figure skater and freestyle skier for the better part of 25 years. I train like an athlete, and I have a few pieces of hardware to show it on the ice and on the mountain... What stays with me the longest, however, is the amount of hardware I have in my body!
Let me start off my saying Hi, I am Dania Assaly. Personal trainer and fitness enthusiast living in Vancouver, former National team athlete on the Canadian halfpipe team. Some call me crazy, and in this sport, you definitely have to be. I am starting a life outside of being a professional athlete, and that is not an easy road... The easy part about transitioning to real working life, was working with people on keeping their bodies healthy and fit, athlete or not, which led me to my career choice now. A series of events happened that led me to where I am today.
From 2005 to 2017, these are the highlights, and the downfalls of my ski career. The ins and outs that made me stronger, the hardship that falls on us when we lose a friend, the toll an injury has on the mind.
The highlights? I've skied in and won slopestyle and halfpipe contests around the world, competed in X Games and World championships numerous time.. I was one lucky 20 something year old... Ten years of my life was spent on the road, in airplanes, and on mountains traveling with my best friends and doing what I loved most... You want more story? The downfalls? I've lost a best friend... I have torn my ACL in my right knee 3 times. I have broken my collarbone, my scapula, my thumbs, my hand, my wrist, bruised ribs, torn my MCL, had a concussion. Missed going to the Olympics because the halfpipe had finally won over my body.
Now what the heck does all this have to do with getting me to where I am today? I am tough as nails. I thought my body was too. I am in the business of helping people. I want to prep them for sport, for getting older, prevent injuries, rehab old injuries, keep them strong and healthy. I train like I am still 22 years old, prepping to get back on the mountain and do 1080s off massive jumps... Do cork nines in the halfpipe... back to back to back contests... Jump higher, spin faster, and look better than everyone else...
REALITY: there is only so much volume and intensity a body can take- MY body can take, on top of the multiple injuries it has sustained.
I stopped competing 2 years ago, and started to really focus in on my strengths in the gym.
This gym became my life. Work/life ratio was definitely not in balance.
I play music... It was gone. I ski.. It barely happened. I had injuries I was ignoring... they got worse. I had to make a change, so this fall I started working for myself, making more time for music, and found a good man to spend time adventuring with.
This 2018 I am starting January off right. I want my body to look and feel heathy, get lean and strong again, and eat the right foods that will keep my skin and body young!
Lets get started together, clean eats, less sugar, and a ton of new recipes to fill your fridge.
